Linguistic Artifacts

The Mirabal sisters and their impact in the Dominican Republic
This is my final paper, which was written for my History of Latin America class I took abroad. We were tasked with picking a topic we did not discuss in class, but that related to class themes, and describing its history. I chose to write about the Mirabal sisters, who were political activists in the time of the Trujillo dictatorship in the Dominican Republic. Through this work, I got to practice my writing abilities in Spanish and learn more about Latin American history. In the future, I would like to be truly bilingual and use my skills in the workplace, so having the ability to write effectively in Spanish is very important for that.

A Reflection of my Ex- Best Friend
This is the final essay I had to write for the literature class I took abroad. The assignment was to write a ‘Retrato’ of someone in our lives who had both a positive and negative impact. I chose to write about my childhood best friend. As I mentioned before, it is beneficial for me to know how to write effectively in Spanish, and this assignment was a way to practice that ability. Some soft skills I gained during the writing of this essay are better communication and emotional intelligence. This essay emphasized the need to be able to criticize and lift someone or something up at the same time, which I think is an important skill in a field like international health. Many times you need to choose options, or assess the advantages/disadvantages of a program, policy, etc, and this essay was a form of doing that.
